SEPTIC SYSTEM INSPECTION PROGRAM :: PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT

Septic Systems in Dayton need to be inspected and pumped at least once every three years according to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) and City regulations.  The City requires that the septic pumper/inspector complete a septic pumping card after each septic pumping.  Septic pumping cards can be obtained at City Hall.

In 2003, the City of Dayton passed an ordinance to comply with MPCA 7080 rules requiring residents to have their septic systems pumped and inspected every three years.

In 2009, the City of Dayton passed a policy to enforce Ordinance No. 2003-09 that outlines a "3 Strike" rule for residents and businesses that do not comply with Ordinance No. 2003-09.

The City established this program to comply with MPCA 7080 rule and remind residents to maintain their systems in an effort to minimize the number of failing systems in Dayton. Sewage, if not handled properly, can be dangerous to the health of our residents.  Without a working septic system, this material can wash through the soil into groundwater supplies and later be pumped to the surface via wells that are intended to bring water for personal use.

The septic maintenance program established by the City attempts to extend the life of existing systems by assuring that proper maintenance is being performed.

SEPTIC SYSTEMS PUMPING CARDS
Please have your septic inspector complete the required septic inspection/pumping card after each pumping and/or inspection and return to City Hall so we can update our records.  Septic pumping cards can be obtained at City Hall.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency provides a list of licensed septic pumpers.

If you have any questions, please contact City Hall, at 763-427-4589.
