LETTER FROM THE CHIEF :: POLICE DEPARTMENT
The Dayton Police Department is committed to providing fair and impartial law enforcement to the citizens of Dayton. Community involvement has always been the key to successful law enforcement. This principal is the basis to good police work.
There are four important functions of law enforcement which make the Department proactive with the community. We have used these and will continue to use them. They are prevention, intervention, enforcement and community support.
Traffic Enforcement along with Commercial Vehicle Enforcement has been expanded over the last year. State and Federal traffic safety programs have been utilized to expand traffic enforcement. Studies show that extra traffic enforcement reduces accidents and fatalities throughout the state.
The Department has been expanding our community involvement. The Neighborhood Watch Program is expanding throughout the City. This program has been welcomed with great success. The Department has continued to work on the National Night Out, Golfin' for Kids, Santa in the Park, school Bike Safety class and the McGruff House Program to keep our children safe.
